He has served Mumbai at different levels. He has played for Mumbai in Ranji Trophy for 11 years and was a prolific run getter. He made way for the youngsters in Mumbai and played as a professional for Assam and Vidharbha. He played for India as an opening batsman.
He has earlier played for India against Sri Lanka U -19 and Zimbabwe U -25. He is the first player to score a hundred in each innings of Duleep Trophy Finals. He scored 278 against Central Zone in Duleep Trophy. He played in the Scottish League for 18 years. He has represented Scotland in Benson Hedges and Natwest Trophy.
A multi-faceted cricketer, actively playing cricket for 20 years, Lalchand Rajput even today plays local club cricket and has helped a number of budding cricketers to sharpen their skills. He led Tata Sports Club for 7 years and under his leadership, youngsters have benefited immensely.
Almost all the Mumbai players have played under his captaincy and his leadership has brought the maximum number of Championships to TATA's, an un-parallel feat in Mumbai.
Sachin Tendulkar also made his ranji trophy debut under the captaincy of Lalchand Rajput in 1987.
